Staff ed: Goodbye, Jimbo’s. We will all miss you greatly.

November 12th, 2009 | By staff | Section: Opinion

Grinnell lost an icon this week. After many years of business, James Sadler-Tanzosch ’88 of Jimbo’s Pizza and Pub finally decided to shut the doors to one of the only delivery restaurants in Grinnell.

The Grinnell community is saddened that Jimbo decided to end his efforts at providing the campus and town with a pizzeria in which we can all take pride. It was a good feeling giving Jimbo, an alum, our support. Whether you only ordered occasionally or knew the menu by heart, Jimbo’s closing is the type of news that can only make a week worse. The ubiquitous fliers and fancy yellow delivery car, the study break special, the pizza buffet and the cheesy bread are all gone—only our memories of these sociable solicitations remain. No longer can we take parents or your out-of-town friends and say, “Well, at least we have Jimbo’s.”

We will miss the pizza ordered at 11:47 p.m. on a Thursday when a paper is due the next day. We will miss walking into the wonderful aroma of pizza after a cold winter walk. We will miss seeing an entire restaurant full of acquaintances and a table full of friends. Goodbye, Jimbo’s. We will miss you with all our heavy hearts and empty stomachs.
